Van plows through the front window of the New York State bar
Imagine sitting in one of your favorite bars while having a few, when you’re suddenly joined right next to you by over two tons of pandemonium? And we’re not talking about a very big drunken unruly city. In this case, a high-speed van crashes through the bar itself. How did all this happen?
WNYT says Rookies Sports Bar & Grill is closed after a van crashed through the bar’s front window. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident, but how it all happened remains to be seen. Authorities say the van ran a red light then hit another vehicle before driving through the Rookies. There aren’t too many other details at this time, but police say no alcohol drugs were involved. Maybe in this case, just reckless driving. Neither driver was seriously injured.
The driver of the van who started the fire received a citation.
Does this happen a lot?
Although you wouldn’t expect a motor vehicle to pass by your favorite restaurant or local business, it happens more than you might think. A rather bizarre incident took place in January 2022 when a woman crashed her vehicle into an empty building. Hudson Valley 12 says the same woman had just passed through a drive-thru at a nearby McDonald’s on Tuesday night before suddenly crashing her Ford Escape through the old HSBC bank.
Not much is known, though a witness said the woman looked tense and angry as she drove through the fast food drive-thru. When McDonald’s employees asked her for her order, she apparently did not respond. Instead, she crossed two lanes of traffic on nearby Nepperhan Avenue in Yonkers and drove through the structure.
It’s happening close to home
The Hudson Valley region has seen several such accidents in recent years. In October 2020, a vehicle drove through the front window of the Drug Mart pharmacy outside of Monsey in Rockland County. Ramapo Police said the crash happened at a shopping center on Airmont Road and Route 59. Another dramatic incident involving a vehicle flying through a structure unfolded in January 2019. Officials said that a car on the road had taken off after the driver had taken a nap. behind the wheel, then slammed into Kirky’s Deli & Pizza in Milton. And in May 2020, two separate accidents happened in one weekend when vehicles rammed into businesses in Rhinebeck and Wappingers Falls. Police said the two vehicles jumped the curb and ended up hitting the two businesses.
