Wallkill and Rhinebeck face off for MHAL title – Daily Freeman
WALLKILL, NY – It will be back-to-back teams that will face off for the Mid-Hudson Athletic League Men’s Basketball Championship on Thursday, Feb. 24, as Wallkill and Rhinebeck High Schools advance to the title game.
Wallkill will host the Hawks in the 4 p.m. final.
Wallkill 56, Marlboro 45
At Marlboro, a balanced effort on offense and defense guided (18-1) Wallkill to the American Conference championship.
Kyle Krebs had 18 points and Mat Shea 17 to lead the Panthers. Jeremy Figueroa added 11 points and held Duke Collin Casey scoreless in the first half and seven overall.
With Chin Okesi held to four points, the Dukes’ top scorer was Dylan Gunset at 11 and Michael Murphy at 10.
Rhinebeck 48, Pine Plains 46
At Pine Plains, Rhinebeck’s spectacular season continued as she rallied at the end to beat the Bombers for the National Conference title.
After Zach Strang’s foul shots tied it at 46 with 29.8 seconds left, Colin Reichelt won it for the Hawks (14-5) on a last-second shot.
Reichelt had 17 points and Richie Dentico 16 to beat Rhinebeck. Logan Lydon scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Pine Plains.
Rhinebeck has won five in a row and eight of his last nine going into the final.
Red Hook 61, Washingtonville 54
In Washingtonville, Red Hook closed out its regular season with a sixth straight win and a 13-5 record.
Gavin Cole scored a career-high 29 points and also had five rebounds and three assists to lead the Raiders. Brendan Donohue (10 points, six blocks, a career-high seven assists, six rebounds, three steals) and Luca Soave (a career-high 10 rebounds) had big games, as did Drake Krajewski, who left the bench for 11 points in the first quarter.
Spakenkill 39, New Paltz 38
At New Paltz, Antonio Lopez and Richie Decker had 12 and 10 points, respectively, and Sam De La Cruz grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Spakenkill over the Huguenots.
