Do you know the hidden cafe on the Rail Trail?
I can’t tell you how many times over the past few months someone has mentioned they have great pizza right on the Rail Trail in Rosendale. I saw a chef friend of mine talking about it on Facebook a few months ago, and another friend was talking about it the other day. They were both thrilled with the food, especially the pizza. What is this mysterious hidden pizzeria?
I decided to google “pizzeria on the Rail Trail”. The Rail Trail cafe. A restaurant in the middle of a Rail Trail ride? Impressive! And here’s the thing… it’s so much more than a pizzeria. According to their website, this little cafe in the middle of the woods uses local produce and their menu changes with the seasons. And they have what looks like an amazing wood-fired pizza.
The Rail Trail Cafe is really starting to pique my curiosity. Not only do they use local farms to get the food needed for their menu, not only do they have those pizzas that everyone loves in addition to salads, pastries and other hand held foods, but they also have music till in mid-October with the best of local folk, jazz, world music and more. Check the website for the schedule.
The Rail Trail Cafe is open Friday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Thursday the food cart with a lighter menu is available from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. I just can’t forget that there is a hidden gem like this on the Rail Trail. And if you make the trip, be sure to schedule time to visit the town of Rosendale. They have fun events throughout the year like the Rosendale Street Festival and the Pickle Festival, as well as some really cool local shopping.
